Come and See Farm is a collaboration and vision of Melissa Payne and Gail Holman. We have eight acres of overgrown farmland that we will convert to a permaculture teaching farmstead.
After seventeen years as a public school teacher, and eight of them as a Special Education teacher Melissa holds the deep seated belief that "It takes a village to raise a child." Concerning her deeply is the isolation of children and their families. There are many children who can't afford or don't fit in extra- curricular programs. There is no place available for the ideal of a village to grow. Come and See Farm will bring us back to the 'Village' ideal. It will bring people together to heal and grow.
Gail has experience in Christian ministry, environmental education and parent education. She is committed to growing her own food and helping others do the same. We are to be good stewards of the earth and to care for each other. She seeks a concrete way to bring success and accomplishments to children while caring for the earth in a sustainable, responsible way.
There is a committee of twelve people who have joined together to bring this vision to life. This group is composed of educators, teacher consultants, community members, parents, and youth. We will create a farm that will not only produce good food but will lift up children and families in need of success and accomplishments in their lives.
